Spring has sprung and you're probably starting to think about getting your lawn mower ready for mowing season. But have you ever wondered where and how your lawn mower is made?
There is a good chance that your John Deere riding lawn tractor was manufactured at the Power Products factory in Greeneville, TN. The factory opened in 1988 but it wasn't until 2002 that they produced the first John Deere riding lawn tractor. 17 years later and the legendary machine hit a massive milestone when they manufactured their 5 millionth riding lawn tractor in the facility!
Power Products facility manager, Jeff Hollett, spoke about how exciting it was to see the five millionth riding lawn mower go through the assembly line. "We take immense pride in the legacy we have built here in Greeneville, and to know we have built 5 million machines is something we are really proud of."
The factory opened in 1988 and started with just 62 employees. From welding to painting the legendary green and yellow colours, it now employs anywhere between 500 - 1,000 people depending on the season. There are over 100 people that work in the assembly line alone - helping to produce a tractor every 40 seconds.
