As lawn mowing season comes to a close, it is tempting to just park your mower once your done that last pass. However, a little time spent now prepping it for winter will make it easier on you come spring.
Read on for our quick tips on winterizing equipment for an easy spring start-up!
- Clean the unit of all grass debris. Remove grass from under the deck, inside the chute and bagger if applicable.
- Check the belts for wear. Repair any worn or damaged parts. Replace parts if necessary. Tighten loose hardware.
- Change the engine oil and filers. Remove and clean or replace the air and fuel filters.
- Fill your fuel tank to 95% full with fresh stabilized fuel. We recommend using John Deere Fuel-Protect Gasoline Stabilizer or John Deere Fuel-Protect Diesel Fuel Conditioner, which are available from your local Martin Deerline.
- Run the engine for approximately 5 minutes for the stabilized fuel to circulate through carburetor and fuel lines.
- Remove or disconnect spark plugs.
- Remove battery. Store in a cool dry place where it will not freeze.
- Store mower, in a dry, protected place. If mower is stored outside we recommend putting a waterproof cover over it.
